Below, enjoy this timeline of the history of our Assumption community:
May 1984 - Home Orthodox Missions Endowment (HOME) Foundation was formed by Metropolitan Anthony to develop additional Orthodox Churches.
September 16, 1987 - Metropolitan Anthony approves the formation of an Assumption Greek Orthodox Parish in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Phil Noplos was appointed September 16, 1987 as "Chairman, Interim Parish Council."
November 22, 1987: 40 individuals gather and share thoughts on the needs for a future church in Scottsdale.
June 21, 1988: The City of Scottsdale approved the zoning and use of the house at 8202 E. Cactus Rd. as a church facility.
July 13, 1988 - Assumption Granted Articles of Incorporation
August 14-15, 1988 - Bishop Anthony celebrates at the first services.
September 1, 1988 - The first Priest is officially assigned, Rev. David G. Wright.
1988- Phil Noplos - Parish Council President
January 1989: Peter Maniatis President , Parish Council
May 1989: Fr. David Wright is being transferred.
July 1, 1989: Rev. Chris Margaritis is assigned as the 2nd Priest to Assumption.
November 9, 1989 - Temporary Charter granted by Archdiocese.
January 1990: Phil Noplos - President of the Parish Council
January 1991 & 1992: Ann Manos - Parish Council President
January 1993: John Ginakes - Parish Council President
January 1994: Phil Noplos - President of the Parish Council
January 1995: Eleni Koliambas - President of the Parish Council
March 1995 - Rev. Andrew Barakos is assigned as the 3rd Priest to Assumption.
January 1996 - Tom Kenrick- Parish Council President
1997, 1998, 1999, 2000 & 2001- Dr. Paul Kalina - Parish Council President
February 23, 1997 - Budget of $2 million for building a new church is approved by the General Assembly
December 6, 1998 - Assumption celebrates "Building On Faith, Hope and Love" Campaign with $1.1 million dollars pledged over the next three years to build the new church.
May 28, 2000 - Groundbreaking services take place for the construction of the new church.
October 28, 2001 - The Opening of the Doors celebration of the new Assumption Greek Orthodox Church takes place.
March 17, 2002 - Assumption embarks on its second Campaign to retire the $800,000 mortgage on the new Church. The Campaign "Consecrate Your Faith" will conclude in March of 2005.
January 2002 - Ret. Col. Nick Harris - Parish Council President
January 2003, 2004 & 2005 - Michele Genetos - Parish Council President
2005 - Iconostasis & Church Furnishing Project
January 2006, 2007 & 2008- Rocky Sisson - Parish Council President
2007 - Icon Dome Project Initiated
2008 - Exterior Church Building Repairs Completed
December 9, 2008 - $800,000 mortgage was paid-off
January 25, 2009 - Metropolitan Gerasimos Pastoral Visit
2009 - Jack David: Parish Council President
August 15, 2009 - Dome Icon Project Completed
2010, 2011, & 2012 - Rocky Sisson: Parish Council President
October 29-30, 2011 - Archbishop Demetrios & Metropolitan Gerasimos Consecrate Assumption
May 4, 2014 - Parish Approves Updated Master Plan & Community Center
February 22, 2015 - Three-Year Capital Campaign "Building Faith, Family & Future" commenced to build $3.8 million Community Center Project
August 21, 2016 - Community Center Ground Breaking Ceremonies
November 1, 2017 - Community Center Building Project Completed
Building Faith, Family & Future Capital Campaign Raised $2,840,000
2017 - $960,000 Mortgage
2013 -2018 Christina Pullos: Parish Council President
2019-2020 - Mike Ristagno, Parish Council President
December 31, 2020 - $960,000 Mortgage Retired!
2021 -2024 Takis Makridis, Parish Council President
October 26, 2024 Dedication of new Community Center with Metropolitan Gerasimos
