Byzantine Chant

The chant ministry at Assumption Church is open to all persons wishing to participate. The cycle of services of the Church and Byzantine chant are intertwined, and our ministry seeks to express the musical richness that pairs with the beauty and elegance of Church hymnography. The expression of the texts in musical form are designed to create auditory icons that bring the congregation closer to prayer and repentance before the presence of God in the services.

Byzantine notation is used exclusively, but participants are not required to know it to participate, as there are roles in chant choirs that do not require intimate understanding of the notation. Our music ministry is led by Anastázius Kaejatídarján.
