Altar Servers & Epistle Readers

2010-11 Altar Serving Schedule

2010-11 Sunday Epistle Reading Schedule

Dear Altar Server,

Thank you for offering to serve at our Lord's Altar. The role of an Altar Server is to assist the clergy in the celebration of the Liturgy and to learn about what is taking place durring a Liturgy. Altar Servers are tonsured by Metropolitan Gerasimos when he visits our community. If you have not received a tonsure, you may serve with a blessing from Fr. Andrew. Allan Boyd is the Altar Server Supervisor for the Sunday services.

Outlined below is some important information that you should know as you prepare for your role as an Altar Server.

When you serve, please arrive at the service no later than 9:15 AM Please enter the Church from the front doors, light a candle and then proceed into the altar from the door to the left of the altar.

Once you have put on your robe receive a blessing from Father. Then pray the "Altar Server's Prayer" that is posted on the wall near the closet.

Please wear dark dress shoes if you have them. A shirt with a collar makes the robes look nice.

On your calendar at home, please carefully mark the dates that you have been scheduled to serve. On the days when you cannot serve, it will be YOUR responsibility to contact a substitute from the list provided.

So keep in mind, when you make the effort to prepare yourself for service, you are always welcome.

Your co-worker in Christ,

Rev. Andrew Barakos

Tonsuring of Altar Server, Gregory Stell, by Metropolitan Gerasimos assisted by Fr. Barakos and Fr. Kelley of blessed memory.
